What is the Intensive Outpatient Process?
What exactly is IOP?
A traditional outpatient treatment program’s second phase is an intensive outpatient treatment program (IOP). In an IOP, individuals receive intensive therapy and treatment programs similar to those found in residential treatment facilities. They can still reside at home to fulfill their family and professional obligations. Depending on their schedules, people who participate in intensive outpatient treatment programs will visit the treatment facility during the day or evening for programs and services. In general, people will attend treatment three times per week for three hours per session. The frequency and duration of sessions depend on the severity of the patient’s addiction.
An I.O.P. typically lasts 6 to 8 weeks, but can be extended based on the patient’s requirements. An I.O.P. is a great option for those who do not need medical detoxification or 24-hour care. These programs are optimal as stand-alone transition programs for those who have recently completed residential treatment and require additional support.
